Vietnamese Visas in Nanning
I'm posting this because I had great problems getting
any usable information about where and how to find the
Vietnamese Consulate.
The address for the Vietnam consulate in Nanning is 109
Minzu Dadao. It's quite a long way from the centre of
Nanning, but if you start from the railway station and
walk south down Chaoyang Lu past Walmart, then turn east
onto Minzu Dadao at the main intersection, then walk for
about 2 or 3 km. The consulate is on the left just after
the big intersection after the big bridge across the
lake. Alternatively catch the No.6 bus which covers the
same route (check the bus numbers at the bus stops
because it doesn't stop at every one) and get off at the
second stop after the big bridge. We got next day visas
for 500Y each in November 2005.
Also, we got bus tickets from the East bus station
direct to Hanoi (I can't remember how much we paid,
possibly 130Y, I think it was comparible or slightly
cheaper than the train). The East bus station is the
last stop for the No.6 bus on the same route described
above and is about twice as far as the consulate out of
town. This made the boarder crossing really easy as we
had anticipated having to mess around with minibuses,
motorbikes and people generally trying to rip us off.
Also the bus ticket includes lunch where money changers
will change your last few Yuan, the rates seemed okay
but make sure you know what they should be.
